Summer

Howdy y'all.
Today, I shall educate you about the joys (and terrors) of summertime Up Here. Why? Because school got out for me yesterday. No more classes until September!

So, Up Here, we have this thing called Summer Camp. *begins talking in fake Texas accent* Now, y'all Down Under have camps, but not like we do. Summer camps are usually themed: Horse Camp or Music Camp or Language Camp (I do German Camp.) Some kids go to Bible Camp or Genius Camp or Computer Programming Camp or Debate Camp. I've even heard of a Torah Camp. Sometimes, it's just an everyday Summer Camp (a la 'Parent Trap'). That's less common now. When my dad was little, he went to "Kids-whose-parents-are-socialists" camp. That doesn't happen at all anymore. My friend goes to a camp that seems to be all about going on week-long canoe trips all around the state.

Anyways, you go away from home for a week, two weeks, a month, or more. You sleep in cabins with a bunch of other kids your age. There are councilors, usually 17-or-older young people who went to the camp as kids, and now have extra responsibilities. You eat with the rest of the camp, and all day long you do whatever you're there to do. (Speak French, learn how to DJ, ride horses, canoe, whatever.) It's the best time in the world.

Here's the terror about Summer where I live: THE BLOODY MOSQUITOES. I have SEVENTEEN bites on my torso, arms, legs, and feet. And 1) I live in the city. For now. 2) It's only about two weeks into the heat 3) Two of them have bled from me itching them. That's how badly I react. Wait until Summer Camp, when I go to the North Woods.

It is now officially Friday here. (If anyone even THINKS about that song, I will shoot lasers at you through the internet.)

You're thinking about it, aren't you?
Well, okay. I lied. I can't shoot lasers through the internet. Darn.

Best Wishes!
Rose.
