Lights Should Be On The Ceiling

When you are putting lights into a room, any room, I personally think that they should be installed on the ceiling, not the walls. There's a bunch of reasons for this.

First of all, when you put lights on the wall a single one generally isn't enough to light up the average room. Whereas if you put them on the ceiling, one does the job. My room is an excellent example of this.

This brings me to my second reason, if you are putting more than one light in your room, it's going to use more energy, meaning your environmental impact will increase and so will your power bill. And from what I hear power is quite pricey at the moment. Do you really want more bills?

Another reason is that one light on the ceiling takes up less space that two or three on the walls. If you are anything like me, you have lots of posters and stuff on your walls. If you put lights on your walls, it cuts back your hanging space. It also could be a fire hazard if your poster gets to close to the globe.

My next reason is really quite a matter of personal opinion, lights on walls look silly in my mind. They are quite often not very nice lights, if you have lights on the ceiling, how often are you going to have to look at them. Also, lights on walls have a habit of making me see coloured spots, which is just plain annoying.

So really, keep your lights on the ceiling, where they belong because otherwise they'll just get in that way and cost you extra money that could be spent on books.
